Séminaire | Seizième séminaire-apéro du CEL

Evènement | le 13 septembre 2018

De 16h à 18h

Le Centre d’Études Linguistiques (CEL) organise son seizième séminaire-apéro à l’Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3.

A cette occasion, Marleen Haboud, Professeure de linguistique à la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, donnera une conférence intitulée : « Emerging Collaborative Methodologies for Linguistic Documentation and Revitalization ».

Résumé (en anglais):

Ecuador, one of the smallest countries of South America (272,045 sq. km.), is known for its geographic, ecological, cultural and linguistic diversity. In addition to Spanish, 13 indigenous languages are still spoken, although some are highly endangered. The kichwa language, spread through the country, is both the indigenous language with more speakers in all the Ecuadorian regions, but also, one of the languages, which is permanently permeated by Spanish.
On the basis of qualitative and quantitative data gathered through large-scale community-grounded research in Ecuadorian languages, this presentation is twofold; on the one hand, it describes briefly the sociolinguistic situation of Indigenous Ecuadorian languages, especially Highland Kichwa; on the other, it mentions some of the documentation and revitalization processes developed along with the speech communities in response to language shift and loss. Special attention is given to the project Ancestral Health Practices Narratives and Storytelling: Andean Indigenous Ecuadorian Voices which is one of our recent collaborative efforts to retrieve forgotten ancestral knowledge through the voices of community elders and the use of new technologies.
Some of the learned lessons, challenges, expectations and long-term achievements are finally brought into reflection.
