PALA 2027 Conference

Style and Voices

The conference theme is Style and Voices. We invite proposals for twenty-minute papers exploring the relationship between style and voice across literary, linguistic, multimodal, and digital discourses. We welcome papers that consider how stylistic choices construct, perform, negotiate, or challenge individual and collective voices, as well as how voices may shift across genres, contexts, media, and identities. Papers might explore areas that include, but are not limited to:

• (Phono)stylistic analyses of oral productions;
• Narratology;
• Representations of voice(s) in literary and non-literary texts;
• Representations of voice(s) in films and TV series;
• Speech, dialogue, and represented discourse;
• Digital, multimodal, and mediated voices.

We welcome abstracts that address these and similar issues, but also that explore broader areas of stylistics and, in particular, its relationships to other disciplines such as pragmatics, semantics, narratology, literary studies, media studies, cultural studies, language teaching, translation and others.

Abstracts should be sent as email attachments in .doc, .docx or .rtf format and should be named ‘Surname_Abstract_PALA2027’.

They should contain the following:

• title;
• your full name, academic position, academic affiliation, email address, postal address;
• a recognisable thesis/statement or research question;
• an explanation of the methodology;
• a short reference to emerging results (if applicable);
• a list of keywords;
• a short list of key references (max. 5).

The deadline for submission of all abstracts is Friday 29th January 2027. Decisions will be communicated in early March 2027.
